While at Oliver, I worked mostly on finance accounts, like Morgan Stanley and Barclays, but when Manulife needed a writer to jump in and tackle their 2021 ESG report, I stepped in and told their story.
This was probably the most challenging story I’ve ever told. Two obstacles loomed. First, I had to wrap my head around a new client’s corporate sustainability strategy in a few days’ time and gather all of the reference content. Secondly, I had to write the report … in a whopping five days. On the surface that might not sound terrible, but when you add in interviews with the Chief Sustainability Officer and other stakeholders, plus 125 pages of content, the challenge becomes clear.
Despite a week or so of early mornings, late nights, and an unrelenting feeling of having my foot on the gas pedal, we did the damn thing. The report was published about six weeks after the kickoff meeting and the project was deemed a success.
